Resampling

Hi everyone! I have what might be a silly question but I'm confused about resampling. I didn't know Ableton had this feature until recently and I don't think I understand in what instances I should use it. Very often I will make a new track and change it's input to another track and I'm sure I'm not using the right words but in my head I think of it as writing the track to save CPU and for creative things like if I want to cut off the sound completely including the reverb for a stop or something along those lines.
Why would I use the resample option? My understanding that the track receives audio of everything that is active while set to resampling. How is this different from setting it to Master? You could still mute and solo whatever you need and the Master track would be the same as the resample, right? I guess I just get confused when there's so many different options to achieve the same results, this just seems particularly redundant. My weird preference seems to be to make groups and then just setting the group as the new track's input but I understand why that wouldn't be ideal. What am I missing?
Thanks!
