how do you set this up;
is this similar to using a limiter?

thanks ahead of time.

like um. auto gain is called level matching. you should have this skill already as a dj.

simple adjust the gain slider of the clip so its peaks match the peaks of the other song?

yes... CompressorII is a limiter, if you set the ratio high enough.

Anyhow, click on the button labeled "makeup gain" if you dont like using your ears.

although I wouldn't recommend using a limiter or a compressor in an instance where you just need to boost the volume.

if you need to boost the 'loudness' of a track, then go for it.

thanks for the advice, gave it a try, and IMHO it just doesn't sound as good as just using your ears like when dj'ing with decks. It seemed to make things sound flat
besides, I already use Reaktor on my master to polish/tweak the sound.

good.

CompressorII shouldn't sound as good. Compressing songs (or samples) that have already been mastered is not a good thing.

Might as well airbrush a nice painting, you aren't likely to improve it.

Compressors... "compress" dynamics afterall ;), which means they make everything sound flatter and more average. For vocals, this can be very very useful, but for a drum track... well, its dynamics that make drums "pop" and "thump", take away the dynamics and a drum track is just mud.
