I'm quite new to ableton but everything is going great... BUT!

I can hear my guitar through my speakers when I plug in my guitar, but Ableton isn't showing any signal from it.
I've followed all the typical instruction 5 or more times to make sure i'm not missing something.

I'm using a UA-25 EX Cakewalk by Roland.

Hopefully someone will chime in with a solution. I'm not sure what it could be. But I would double-check:

- In Preferences - Audio tab, you've got the right audio driver and interface selected.
- In the audio track, the Audio From choosers have Ext. In and the right input number selected, Monitor set to Auto, track is record-armed and active (track number in yellow).
- In the audio interface, the Direct Monitor knob is all the way clockwise.
- There are no other audio programs running in the background in your computer.

I'm pretty sure you've checked all these, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.

Is there any chance I need a different Audio-Interface? I feel like it must be doing its job well enough if I can hear it through my monitors. It seems like its just some how bypassing the computer and going straight to the monitors.

“ Most audio interfaces have a ‘direct monitoring’ option for hearing your mics directly, rather than hearing them processed through your DAW.

This is so you can hear your instrument immediately as you’re playing it with minimal latency as you record yourself playing along to your daw. If you hear yourself playing Through the DAW there will be an increased latency... which, depending on your abilities and sensitivity to latency may or may not affect your playing.

On some interfaces they had a ‘mix’ knob so you could blend between 100% DAW to 100% direct monitoring.

On newer ones, they often put that mixing option in the software for the audio interface, rather than physically on the device.”

Thanks a ton! It does have a "Direct Monitor" knob, with two button above it "Mono" and "Mon SW"
The only combination that seems to give me any audio at all is when I press down the "Mon SW" and turn up the direct monitor, but as you could imagine, its just direct.

I've tried every combination. I've turned up and down each knob with each button and switch both on and off (or in every setting its a switch) and I don't get any signal in my Ext. In.

Also this audio interface doesn't seem to have a software component.

I'm reluctant to just buy a better audio interface without being able to confirm its the problem.

Now this morning I turned on my PC and I get a Guitar signal through Ext In,
Yay right?
NO.

Now that I get a signal I get no audio from my monitors at all. I can't even get a test tone. I don't know what could have possibly happened over night that my problems would just invert themselves. I'm moderately infuriated to say the least.

Both halves of what I want from this audio interface have proven themselves functional now but not allowing me to access both halves at the same time.

I tried switching from UA-25EX to ASIO4ALL
I've tried messing with each knob and hit every button and switch.
On and off advanced drivers. Nothing.

Any suggestions?
