MPE Pitch Shifting Frustrations (Ableton 11)

I hope I am just being a noob and I'm not using the software properly. because right now my assumptions suggest that:

  • MPE doesn't work with almost all popular third-party plugins. (Kontakt, Omnisphere, Nexus3, SubLab etc)
  • It only works on Ableton's Simpler, Sampler and Wavetable.
  • It can't shift anything beyond the initial sustain of the MIDI note.

Is this seriously correct? For a feature I was so excited about, I am incredibly let down by this...

Please tell me I'm wrong.

Yup it doesn't work at all with superior drummer 3 for cymbal choking on my ekit. Super dissapointing as this was the main reason I got it

For mpe to work, the plugin instrument has to be MPE ready, otherwise its a no it will not work. Not too many vsts/plugins are mpe yet, but its getting better.

I assume there's still no way to get poly aftertouch inside live using some kind of aftertouch to MPE converter or something?
bummer

poly aftertouch is available within Ableton - Push 2 for example can do poly aftertouch, but mostly depends on the plugin/synth your using.

There are certain VSTs that are known for MPE.

Cypher 2
Serum
Pigments (my favorite)
Falcon
Phosphor
Surge (freeware)

Yes most synths don't support it, but it is a more specialized feature and Ableton works well with all of these.

It is pretty much up to the synth designer to include this. Alot of popular synths don't include it. Alot that you mentioned are known for being more Romplers, so it is no surprise (that said most of those are powerful synths still and would benefit from it). I believe Reaktor supports it but you would need to build the ensemble (i don't think any stock Reaktor devices supports it).

ableton doesn't record or understand poly aftertouch. worse; il filters it out so no way to process it with max for live. at least that's true for live 10.
What you're describing is very probably an implementation of MPE.
I'd like someone to confirm ableton 11 can understand ACTUAL poly aftertouch messages from standard midi or as a way of converting it to MPE. but I really doubt that.
I have a microfreak with poly after pressure keys and live simpy does'nt register it. With 11 I could maybe at least convert it to MPE with a max patch but MPE is a lot more challenging to implement than standard midi..
