preset system

The current preset system is simply atrocious. Hot swap button then double click. The capability is there in third party plug-ins to select presets from a drop down within the Ableton container. Why can't Ableton do this with their own FX and instruments? I assume it's something top do with the base code that no-one at Ableton appears to want to address.

But even the current system would work much better if the procedure was: 1) click hot swap button on device; 2) first click: select first preset from browser (where all other presets for e.g. that FX are; 3)use arrow keys to select +load preset 4) selected key/ hot swap button deselect to come out of preset load mode.

In contrast, the current procedure is: 1) click hot swap button on device; 2) click on preset to select; 3) click on preset again to load; 4) move mouse/ direction arrow to load next preset; 5) click on mouse to select next preset; 6) click on mouse to load preset... Totally totally ridiculous.

Cheers

1 - Click the hotswap button. Live automatically selects the folder the current preset comes from, no need to click in the browser.
2 - Use arrow keys to move around and find a preset. 3 - Press enter to select it.
4 - Press Escape to close hotswap.

OR

Click hotswap.
Double click the preset you want.
Press escape to exit hotswap.

Better yet: Press Q to enable Hot Swap.
No need to touch the mouse whatsoever to navigate presets in Live.

That would be a great little change.
Adding usability as well as consistency with their racks and 3rd party VSTs...

I assume you know this is how it already works.

Yes but the double click or pressing enter seems totally unnecessary i.e. no other preset system has this extra step.

Ableton's stumble over preset handling is exposed best by the fact that Main Stage exists

Ableton had a stranglehold on the "live performance" laptop person on stage market.
It's just that they never addressed the need for a performer to flip through presets AND through instruments / layers.

There are all kinds of funky workarounds involving chains, ghost clips, etc (all of which I use)
But the fact that Main Stage could gain any foothold at all shows there's a massive gap here.
