Create an options.txt file (https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... s-txt-file) and add this line to it:

-EnableArmOnSelection

Then arm just 1 track.

It doesn't work with zero armed tracks or with more than one armed track (I think that's good, it allows just selecting tracks without needing to edit options.txt and restarting Live).

Wow thanks that worked!

But why is it so complicated, in Cubase or Studio One I just enable Auto Record Arm, and it works.

To auto arm when you click on a midi track: Live 11.0.12 on Mac Big Sur: go to the Finder, Macintosh HD, Users, (username), Library, Preferences, Ableton, Live (most recent version). Then create options.txt (txt may be provided for you. I duplicated another txt file, renamed it, and deleted text)... and type "-EnableArmOnSelection". I am not a programmer, but this worked for me and I hope this helps you!

I have searched for my Option.txt on version 11.2.7 but it's gone but it looks like it inherited -EnableArmOnSelection from a previous version.

Auto-arming is a feature which is part of my Futility m4l tool device... and it can be de/activated straight from the device......... which is way handier than using the Options.txt

I'm hesitant to post here anymore, but I thought I'd take one last chance. I switched over to mac and everything is working great except this (mac studio, Ventura, etc)

I'm getting a message of "this will be ignored" and then a crash file when opening Live. I think I'm doing everything right, but then again I'm new to mac so not sure.

Anything in preferences or whatnot that I need to change?

I've had this working for ages in Live 10 & 11. In Live 12 it doesn't work. I'll email Ableton about it. I'm afraid they have deprecated this option.
