...so I would apply a scale to a channel/device, then all midi input from a (non PUSH) midi keyboard would simply snap to nearest note in scale upon playback + recording

This is how I have historically used the NI Komplete Kontrol software, but would be cool to have it built into ableton.

...to be clear on the distinction here, once the input is received the scaled midi would be “committed to print” rather than forever dependent on the presence of that midi effect, if that makes sense.
