hi all...i just got some extra money and I bought a pair of Genelec 8030. they sound fantastic, but i think it lacks of bass. I was thinking of 4 options i have.
1- I can get a sub Genelec 7050 and that would take care of the bass, but I'd rather not use a 2.1 system...i live in an apt in Nyc, and my downstairs neighbors wont be happy about my sub.
2- exchange the Genelec 8030 for the bigger Gnenelec 8040...
3- Dynaudio BM6...i could'nt hear them at the store, but i did hear the BM5, they sounded great, but the stereo image and clarity were not up to the level of the Genelec 8030.
4- Mackie hr-824. I know they are a great bang for the buck, but i usually see people who wants to upgrade them...I'd rather stick with monitors for a long time.
I used to have Mackie hr624, great sound....but i wanted something better...
I make Dance music mostly/electronica...any advise is welcome...

I don't think the Genelec sub is going to give you the booty bass boost you're looking for. When you use the Genelec sub with the 8030s you can't really tell it's on. But then again, I don't own them, I've just set them up and listened to them at the store... The sub is really useful for hearing artifacts that your monitors are missing- sub bass mistakes that need to be removed, etc.

I dunno. The 8030s are amazing. The 8040s are also great. The BM6s are really nice too. But, they almost sound too good. Stuff sweetens up going through the BM6s. But, I still think they are fantastic.

I'm not so crazy about the HR824s. They sound scooped out in the mids. The frequencies don't sound unified. But, booty bass they got.

the 8030's sound great.....but i can still exchange them for something else. it gets kind of complicated when you get to the hi end price range(~us$2100 ) since there is so much to choose from.....but if im spending this money i wanna get somehting im really happy with....so far im happy with the genelec 8030, but i know I'll resent in the future if i dont get somehting with more bass. .
so i thyink I'll eleiminate the sub for the 8030...not it all comes to Genelec 8040..us$2100 pair.
dynaudio BM6 us$1700 pair. Mackie hr824 us$1300.
Adam are out of the game since im buying from samash and they dont carry them.....and its too late now to get my money back....
are Genelec and Dynaudio studio standars???

I personally really enjoy my Genelec 8040s. They are a huge improvement over the Genelec 1030 which I had before and which are also pretty good monitors. With the 8040s especially the low end sounds better. My room is far from being a perfect studio and I find it much easier to judge the sound of basslines with the new ones. I have not been listening intensively to the Mackie speakers but a friend of mine who professionaly builds studios does not like them at all... The dynaudio seem to be cool too, but I have not listening to them.
Also Adam speakers might be interesting.

Genelec and Dynaudio seem to pretty much the standard these days.

I will be short .... Get your money back, wait a little more and buy the BM15A Dynaudio : you will get the sound you want. Clarity, bass, ... and so on. I have been working with my Alesis M1 for years and then I heard the BM15A... have been sparing money during one year and now I have them, it is the best sound I heard. If you can do it, wait !

I live in NYC which means..SMALL APARTMENT ....I think everyhting above a 6.5" would be way too much.....not because my studio is small, but also for my neighbors....It wouldnt make sense spending more money and then i cant even play the monitors at normal levels because the bass goes to my neighbors upstairs and downstairs.
BTW...the jump from Alesis to anyhting else OF COURSE YOU WOULD LOVE YOUR DYNAUDIO!!!...hehehe..just kidding

I'm very happy with my Genelec 8040's. Excellent bass, clarity in all freqs - I can actually hear whats going on now!

I listened to the Mackies and did not like them at all, no transparancy and to much 'boom'.

The ADAM P22A I'm very happy with. Clear sound that does not make you tired. Only the bass response could be better, but that also can be my room.

I think what you have is fine, but I have the mackies and they're great.

In untreated rooms, you may hear too much bass, thereby making it seem like the mids are reduced, but if you take the time to properly set things up, they're pretty amazing.

Everything you've mentioned are industry standards, and safe bets .

I review gear a lot (for a magazine and websites)and I like the new range of Genelecs. Only one set of speakers has seriously kicked their ass for me in terms of clarity, stereo image and bass response, the Event ASP series. For their size and as a professional mastering engineer, I haven't heard a better monitor (the ASP-8's would be overkill for your small apartment, they are 300Watts per side and get down to 35Hz, although the 6's were also rated down to 35Hz from what I remember). Check them out, they're wicked cool!

i'm still in love with my bm6as. amazing clarity and reasonable lower freq reproduction.

This review sums it up nicely. i have a set of bm6a's and to my ears they give me the sound. but i wouldn't say no to a set of genelecs 1031A's either.

Many peeps like Genelec. I don't understand the fuss personally.

I think Dynaudio's are great and will give you a more neutral sound.

this review doesnt mention the Genelec 8000 models....which for my understanding are a whole new different beast.
