Looking for good bass VST

Hey all,

I'm looking for a good bass VST that runs in Ableton.

I'm mostly producing tracks in the genres hiphop, funk, downtempo with lot of influences from jazz. Most of my tracks are combinations of recorded guitar, keys and programmed drums and bass with occasional guest musicians. I'm also recording e-bass directly but am not really satisfied with the sound most of the time (but I'm also not playing bass on a regular basis).

Most of the time I'm looking for classic Fender Jazz Bass and Double Bass sounds but occasionally I'm also tinkering with synth basses since I have a background in EDM (drum and bass mostly).

I came across the Trilian Bass Module which sounds quite alright but seems a bit pricy. So I was wondering if there are good/better alternatives in the same price range (or maybe even cheaper).

Thanks a lot for your input!

What really helps recording bassguitar is a good preamp (like a sansamp bassdriver, and even better complemented with a Mooer RADAR cabsim pedal.).

A Mooer cost about $ 125,= and a Sansamp can be found second hand......

This way you are more flexible than with a sample library.

I'm gonna plus one Trillian.

It's my go-to for real bass guitar sounds, but its collection of synth-based basses is also excellent.

Thanks for your thoughts and comments.

Is the Trilian interface user friendly? How versatile is it when it comes to modifying preset sound (I read that Trilian has loads of presets but is not as flexible when it comes to modifications, can you confirm that)?

What VST would you choose if you would only be interested in synth-based basses?

Many thanks :)

Another vote for Trillian, easy to use but still a lot of depth. If you only wanted synth basses, then Omnisphere would likely be a better option and also highly recommended.

Third Party VST's - Native Instruments Monark would be my choice -
Subtractive Synth workflow, so a great place to begin creating your own Bass patches & sounds amazing 🤙
