clips are greyed out and silent when I drag from Session to arrangement view

Hey folks,
I just got Live 11 Stanadard on the weekend so I'm on a learning curve. Been using Cakewalk Sonar and Reason for years though so not a novice.
I'm hoping someone can help me. I've created some clips in the Session view and want to move them to the Arrangement view but when I do they are grayed out and silent. I've looked in the manual and googled but I just can't get this to work. I'm probably missing something really simple but I'm stumped.
