Is the printed manual that comes with the box the exact same as the PDF in the download, or is it a shortened version?

I usually print out and bind my pdf manuals and put them on the shelf, but if the box manual is the same, maybe I'll just buy the box version.

Thanks.

On Help menu of Live 5.0.1, select

Read the Live Manual...

PDF file should open up. Note there are 378 pages total counting cover and title page.

yeah - I want to know if this is the same amount of pages that comes in the printed manual with the box or is the printed manual a shortened version?

Ableton guys will need to confirm and answer this one...

Or, you may want to ask question to other users on different posts who've received the boxed version. Try this post

I believe, from the beta period (please someone correct me if I'm wrong), that the printed manual was sent to print some weeks ago, at the same time as they included the manual with the beta in PDF. Then some of us reported minor errors lying in the manual, and it was said by someone by Ableton that it was too late for the printed version (at least the first row), but that it would be corrected in the PDF version.
So, it is all very minor errors, but that is a difference between printed and PDF manuals. Otherwise they would be the same I think.
Get a printed one now ! You'll get a collector !

Cheers,
amo

Hmmm... That's strange! :? It might be formatted differently. Seems weird that they should make a "short" version.

Yes, it's just formatted differently for the PDF. The content does appear to be identical :)

Thanks - that's what I needed to know. Reason 3's Getting started manual was included with the upgrade box, but their PDF was much more detailed. I wanted to make sure this wasnt the case before I printed out the PDF.

Yes, that's al;ways been the case with Reason - the printed manual is always just the getting started guide, but the PDF is the real thing (same with all Propellerhead products in fact - ReCycle and ReBirth too).

Live has always included the full manual in print, which personally I much prefer.

Also worth reading the occasional book though as well - the book Ableton Live 4 Power by Dave Hill Jr (who works for Ableton) and Chad Carrier is particularly good and a very worthwhile read. (I imagine it will be updated for version 5 before long)
