Hearing my external editor through my headphones.

Hey aliens. I'm trying to get my new external editor (spectralayers) to work through my headphones. I had it work on an occasion or two but then it just wont. It has an option in spectralayers to use asio. When I try to use that it doesnt work at all and it freezes my pc. I have a behringer umc 40 audio input deal with a headphone amp from it. 
Any help would be appreciated. Id hate to just have to use these headphones for this and then these for that. Thanks again.
