Volume slider is selecting track (Korg Nanokontrol2)

Post by Vanishing Memory » Sun Dec 26, 2021 7:17 pm

Just got a Korg Nanokontrol2.
Based on Sweetwater.com's page, I chose Mackie Control as the DAW setting for this. I notice that when I move a slider, it doesn't just change the volume for that track, but also selects that track. Any way I can change this? Thanks!

For example, when I use faders for volume on the launchkey mk3, it doesn't do that.

You are right, this is not normal behaviour. Both the Push2 and the remote software DAW Control don't behave like that. And the DAW Control is in "Mackie Control" mode.

You are in Live 11, I'm in 10 - maybe there is a difference, but that seems strange to me......

Have you tried the "Microcontrol" mode in Live? If not try that for a change and see what happens. Otherwhise if it won't work change it back!

microKontrol Control Surface selection seems to not respond to faders.

I snooped the MIDI data. Each time you switch faders:
- MIDIView interprets a Note on (velocity 127) / Note off (velocity 0) sequence on channel 1
- Following that, Pitch Bend values are interpreted on a channel corresponding with the fader number (1,2,3...)

I decided to set the manually setup a control surface, by setting the control surface to None and enabling Remote for In and Out, and doing MIDI map for each control. So far, this seems to work, basically. I mapped all faders, pots, solo and arming (R), session record, stop, play.
https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/midi- ... face-setup

Saved by creating a default template.

Couldn't map the M buttons, as it seems they are special somehow. They're always lit. When I map them to Speaker On, the tracks are permanently muted.

I also decided to configure the Korg in CC mode using the editor. However, this doesn't seem to be practically any different, other than that the values being sent from the controller are different. Same issue with Mute buttons.

This is I guess getting off topic, but I also find that Ableton's midi mapping path is hardcoded to the name of the track. If you delete a track and create a new one in that slot, all the mappings for that track are lost.

I do not know how much you like this device, but can't you return it and get a working type of device from the list of Ableton?

Looks like the Mute button issue is easily solved. All track buttons should be set to Toggle in Korg Editor.

Also note: tried creating a custom control surface and it didn't seem to work. Default template is the way to go

I like the device, and it was a gift

If it is a gift, and above all you like it - keep it of course. Make the best of it, or does it do all you wanted now?

Hi,

I'm now happliy using Live 11 with the nanoKontrol2 using the MackieControl scripts with just a one line change in a file.
I've not found any need to modify anything with the Korg Kontrol Editor. In fact none of the Korg SW or drivers are installed.

I factory reset my NK2 by pressing and holding Cycle+Track Left+Track RIght before plugging it in.
then to initialize the NK2 for Ableton I did by pressing and holding Stop+Set before plugging it in again.

The file to modify and the steps to take are described here:
See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ableton/commen ... /?sort=new

Hope that helps!
Phil
