Why do scenes overwrite all arrangement tracks when I record if only one track is armed??

I had a nice loop going in Session View and I wanted to record some vocals into Arrangement View, where I already had some clips. I created a new audio track, selected the input my microphone is connected to and record-armed the track, then hit record. Session view starts playing, as expected, but a any clips playing from Session View get recorded over into Arrangement View, overwriting any existing material. This doesn't make any sense to me. If I have armed only one track, why are all tracks (armed or not) being recorded???
