Dear Ableton community,

I would really appreciate your advice on the following subject: I have Live 11, my new RME Babyface pro fs and I seriously need to replace my old laptop (Dell Inspiron 13). My main project is to use the laptop for live performance with my classical guitar,by amplifying the signal with a Schertler Dyn G P48 mic and processing the signal with effects from Live 11 and Max for Live. I know this is a huge topic but I am very confused on whether I should invest my money on a new Macbook Pro M1 (I was never an Apple user before) which is probably the norm among the creatives or I should go with the Windows option with higher specs (16gb RAM 512 GB ssd etc). Any help with my confusion is very welcome! Thanks!

If you ever plan on recording that classical guitar, then the M1 Macbook Air is the cats meow, no fan, dead quiet.
It should be more than enough for Live and M4L. This is what I bought after considering a Zenbook Duo and thinking about getting the latest Macbook Pro M1 Max etc. I can't pass up a design win like that.

The only consideration is third party software, most of it is already ported to M1, but there might be a few that aren't ready. Native Instruments only has a few that can run under Rosetta, so if you use Reaktor it's mixed results for example.

I would think you would be fine with either MAC or PC.

PC route though just do your homework and you will be fine.

MSI makes some pretty nice gaming laptops which would most likely work well. I use a MSI GS63VR for live performing and it works great. It might be even overkill if you are not doing any softsynths. It is a fairly quiet laptop, I barely hear the fan when it kicks in so I doubt it would be an issue when performing live.
