Using (Amplitube) Effects on a Recorded Audio Clip

Hi everyone, sorry for the newb question, but I wasn't sure how to find what I'm looking for.
I have Amplitube 5. Using it, I recorded a clean section of guitar into Session view, then sent it over to Arrangement view.
I've decided I'd like to turn on one of Amplitube's distortion pedals at a certain point in the clip. Using Amplitube as a VST, I can turn pedals on and off all I want to during playback, but I'm not sure how to turn it on in a certain section of the clip, and then record it there.
Any help is welcome!

Hi, make a duplicate of the arrangement track (select the track header and CNTRL-D/CMND-D). Put the Amplitube on the new track, then delete the respective regions of audio on each track.
So track 1 (without amplitube) looks like -x-
…and track 2 (with amplitube) looks like x-x
Where “-“ is an audio clip, and “x” is an empty gap.
Make sense?

Yes, makes sense, I think.
You're suggesting recording a clip with the distortion on where I want it, then sort of splicing it into the clean clip, correct?
Is there a way to, after the fact, record the distortion without having to re-record the whole clip?
For instance, when I'm playing the clip back, in Amplitube I can turn on pedals and what not and they will affect the clip. I want to be able to do that and have it recorded without having to actually play and record the guitar part over.

I think you are just trying to automate punching the distortion effect on and off over a previous recording? To do this, you have to assign Amplitude parameters to Ableton parameters. In the GUI for Amplitude, click the upper right options (3 bars) box and bring up the automation assignments. You can then assign Stomp A1 bypass (which would be the entire set of effects boxes) to DAW parameter 1. Then when you expand Amplitude 5 to show the device parameters, parameter 1 is now assigned to Stomp A1 bypass. Sliding the triangle will move the parameter between on and off. If you right click on the parameter 1, you can then show it in an automation lane and draw in (or record live) changing that parameter. Keep in mind, it's a BYPASS so ON is actually turning the effects chain OFF. Hope this answers your question!

Hey! Amplitube 5 user here.
You are looking for this:

And this:
Assign MIDI in the pedal Bypass button:
Assign automation in the pedal bypass button too (so it gets recorded):
Confirm that the automation has been assigned:
