a friend of mine, a Logic Pro user, who i sold on the powers of Live (he bought v.4 with a free v.5 upgrade) really prefers the "Tobacco" and "Metal" skins.

the more i look at those, the more i can see why a Logic Pro user would prefer them. many similar tones/hues in Logic.

it would be great for abletons to release the skin editor as one step forward to self customization

Metal, only because it shows the selected scene the best. Critical when scrolling through hundreds of scenes to get the right one!

I, too, wish we could edit our own skins.

My favorite was Tobacco on Live 4 but they changed it slighty on Live 5, so I am using Live 4's Tobacco in Live 5. I also use Mono 7 (from the monolake skins).

Clay here too, I seriously don't like the bright orange of the waveform select though.

Favourites? None I'm afraid, it's the ONLY thing disappointing in live 5 for me. I absolutely LOVE everything else though, so it's just my eyes that are bothered.

Another vote for a skin editor here too.

Why is there no skin editor in Live ??????

Because we still from time to time need to redefine things here, and this would mean the skin editor has to reflect the changes and the older skins need to be converted etc. etc. It is painful enough for us to work with this on each release and we do not feel that the way it is now internally would be something we would like to make public. Developping a skin editor which looks and feels like everything else in Live is additional work. And I gues you all agree that we should rather find a better way to unite the old Live clip transport behaviour with the new features in Live 5 instead of working on this topic, right?

I might find the time to do some variations of the skins and put them up. Regardless, your comments are highly welcome because if it come to color everyone has a different preference and the more feedback our design department gets, the better.

Best, Robert Henke

Robert

For those of us doing 'traditional' DJing using hundreds of scenes, being able to see the active scene is great. I for one would like a relatively dark screen, but with a bright, contrasty band to highlight the selected scene. I get close to the required song with alphabet keys that send me to a dummy scene, then scroll to the required song with a Griffin Powermate. It makes it easy to scroll through hundreds, probably even thousands of scenes. But a high-contrast line across the middle of the screen would make it even easier to see the required scene.

Thanks to you and all the Abes for a fantastic product! It really is changing my life.

Need more sleep...

I kinda got hooked on CARDBOARD...
I also change the language to Spanish... it makes Live look sexier ;)
Ole! :D

Ben

PS:
Since Robert asked for our feedback, here's mine about Cardboard in v5:
I think there's smtg "lost" in v5 due to the different colours of the windows (brown for highlighed window, gray for the other ones, a contrast that is not so great in most of other skins)
I prefer much more when all windows are brown like in v4. The program just looks simpler and more coherent.
Ok, having the highlighted window can be useful, but I think that gray and brown are wayyyy too far apart. What about smtg subtler? Something like, "brown" for active window and "slightly paler brown" for others?
jus my pov...
