Tin ceilings - uh-oh !

I'm very grateful to be moving into a new house and that I have first dibs on the largest of the second floor rooms to place my studio. Only problem is - it has a painted tin ceiling (!) and I'm concerned that the acoustics will be terrible for mixing, even on near-field monitors. I suppose I could try to remove the tin, although that would probably be expensive and also hurt the value of the house.
Haven't moved in yet, so I don't know just how bad the situation will be - but as someone without experience doing any acoustic engineering, I'd sure appreciate any helpful suggestion as I may be confronted with the choice of doing extensive work, or using one of the other much smaller rooms.
Cheers,
