CPU Spikes playing Simpler from clip, but not when receiving note from another MIDI channel or Push

I have a drum rack with a pad containing an instrument rack containing simpler with 128 multisamples. The samples are pretty long.

I can trigger multiple notes quickly from the Ableton Push controller and they play responsive and fine.

However, after I recorded the Push performance into a MIDI clip in session view, playing the clip brings Ableton to a halt with a 300+% CPU spike and garbled audio.

So weird that it plays fine from Push or even another session view channel with some midi being routed into the channel with the drum rack.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I might fix this?
