Novation 49 SL mk3's "Stellar" Ableton Integration

Does anyone have any experience with this thing? I just got it for live performance because of its tight integration with Ableton. It seems really cool but...am I understand that there is NO customization in "InControl" mode AT ALL? So, you lose ALL button and encoder mapping ENTIRELY?
Conversely, when not in "InControl" mode, you can ONLY control the internal sequencer with absolutely NO DAW integration whatsoever? Like, you can't even use the transport controls bc they noly control the sequencer?
Is that right? I really hope that's not right.
