Pitch shifter recommendations for external instrument

Post by D K » Mon May 30, 2022 9:27 pm

Greetings, been a while!
I am looking for a pitch shifter device for external instruments-
not a harmonizer, but pure pitch shifter.
Been cloning my bass guitar effects pedals in Ableton with great success, but can't seem to find a pure pitch shifter (like a whammy pedal)
in Ableton or Max for live effects.
Thanks!

There's a native one since L11, it's called Shifter.
I still prefer using M4L, though, as I don't really like Shifter's pitch shifter algorithm. I'm using a clunky DIY one, but you can easily find good ones on maxforlive.com.

Thanks, but Live's Shifter is not a pure pitch shifter, it works more like a harmonizer.
I'll check out M4L.com thanks!

Just to follow up in case anyone else is looking into this for external instruments, there are definitely some decent shifters in max
but unfortunately using max in an Ableton channel effects chain adds an unusable amount of latency (without it on the same channel, and running half a dozen native live effects the latency is acceptable). Search/ testing continues, and will try building my own environment purely in Max.
One upside it tracking has been a non- issue, so that is promising.

I'm afraid you won't find any pitch shifter with 0 latency.
M4L devices don't add any latency just because they're M4L devices; you simply can't create pitch shifting without latency, that's DSP.
