Any thoughts about this?

Please try ignoring the fact it was created by one of Bitwig's devs and current 4.3 beta5+ already supports it. This pot is not to suggest everyone should move to Bitwig, but rather than Ableton should consider joining the initiative and implement features allowing it to use e.g. CLAP's non-destructive, per-voice modulation; multi-threading, etc.

What's important many industry heavyweights seem to be actively looking into it - Avid(!), Presonus, ImageLine, Cockos, U-He, Arturia, Xfer Records, Vital, Surge, Valhalla DSP, FabFilter, Cytomc, TAL Software, etc. Apparently Ableton is in some sort of talks with the team, too!

There are already couple of synths in CLAP format: Diva, Hive, ACE, Surge XT; with more to come soon(ish).

You forgot the (almost) most important "feature": it's open source!
I don't use many 3rd party plugins as I'm a bit of Live and M4L nerd, but I'm very enthusiastic about CLAP. There's a great punk attitude in here!

Ableton is looking into CLAP. According to Urs from u-he they have a meeting with the guys from Bitwig in a few weeks to discuss the topic further.

I think it's great! Since AU was introduced as a way for Logic and Apple to not be beholden to Steinbergs whims 20 years ago, most of us were not happy that an OS specific solution meant more work for developers not less. Steinbergs absolutely failed attempt to peaceably move everyone to VST3 (which developers seem to almost universally hate coding for), and subsequent dropping of VST2 support has finally driven developers themselves to design an open source format.

My only issue is it will probably take another 10-15 years for this to be the default standard if it succeeds, and it would be fantastic if it could have happened when Apple introduced AU 20 years ago. We would all be using CLAP and not dealing with 3 formats like we are currently.

The Clap is a nickname for a Sexually Transmitted Disease, commonly called STD here in the US.

VST+STD= VSTD

Now I understand why I read so much negative comments about the "CLAP" name...
