I have to cycle my audio input every time I start Ableton now

Every time I start Ableton now it throws an error stating:

The audio engine is off. Please click here to choose an audio device from Live's Audio Preferences.

I do, and I can restore things to normal if I do the following:
1. Change the input to "No Input"
2. Change the input to "Line 1/2 (2- M-Audio M-Track Solo... Wave"
a. It's at this point audio begins to work, but I don't want wave, I want DX so...
3. Change the input to the "Line 1/2 ... DX"

And now I'm all set. It's not the end of the world to do this workaround, but it's annoying. I'm using an M-Audio Solo audio interface.

It all started when I was running into USB troubles on the machine and I unplugged the interface from USB while Ableton was running.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I believe I found the solution. I tried updating the drivers as suggested but that didn't help. Then I noticed my G drive (where some samples are kept) was showing as being offline. I fixed that drive (I don't think it's long for this world), restarted Ableton, and poof! Fixed!

Super weird.

And now it's back to my OP behavior.

Are you setting up the M-Audio as the current default driver for the operating system before launching Ableton? That's how I do it and I never have any problems.
