New to MIDI. How to trigger Drum Rack hits on TouchOS on iPad?

Hi,
I'm having a devil of a time.
I am on Mac. I've got Touch OSC working to triggers loops and such but for some reason, it will not let me MIDI map a trigger to start a drum hit? tat is placed in a drum rack I am hoping to use my iPad as sort of an MPC to play live with stuff. I'm lost.
I've tried using the AKAI free version of the MPC vst but it's super confusing.
Any help is so appreciated.
