Arbitrary Recording

I am trying to record a drum machine sequence, but after letting it record and exporting the audio file I find that it records a 6-8 bars ahead of the starting position, and the recording is also only a few seconds long despite running through the whole sequence. How can I record the clips from start to finish in order and export the file?
