processor usage ableton live 5 -> laptop

Hi,

on my laptop Ableton Live 5 uses between 25% and 30% cpu-power... in standby... with an empty set.
The internal display for cpu-usage in Live says 0%.

So this seem to be two bugs... first to much cpu-usage and the second one that the internal display doesn't show up the really needed cpu-power.

On my workstation cpu-usage of Live 5 in standby is very low. So this seems to be a problem of Live 5 on my laptop.

My Laptop is an Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M1420.
1.6 GHz PentiumM, 1 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700,
Digigram-Soundcard VXPocket v2, Win XP Home SP1

Is this a known problem?

Mart

Try turning off Speedstep in your BIOS.

Thanks for your fast response.

Hmmm... there is no option to switch of speed stepping in the bios.
The energy-options in Windows are "always on". This worked fine for me up to now.

Is there a tool for switching speed stepping off if not possible in bios?

is this with an empty set or an old project or template created in a version earlier than live5?

as I wrote above... with an empty set
directly after launching live 5 the cpu-usage increases to 30%.

hmm... the problem seems to be the asio-driver of my soundcard or the chipset-driver for the cardbus.

I've to check this in detail...

but shouldn't live 5 tell me the real cpu-usage?

Hi mart,
I may be wrong (I'm used to it...) But I think Live shows up the cpu it is using and other cpu usage is not reported in the Live window... so your OS and any other processes don't show up in Live. I think Live hitting 100% means 100% of what Live can get hold of after all the other stuff is added up.

Welcome aboard...
:)
