NEWBIE- no midi loops will stay on

I have watched countless videos. When I drag an instrument etc to a midi slot the sound stops. Only plays when I click on it in the search drop down on the left. I have tried to set preferences correctly, I am using a focusrite scarlett. The first several times i used Ableton i did not have this problem. Literally day 2 for me.
