Sorry if this is a basic question. I cant seem to work out..

if I have a 4 bar loop playing in the step sequencer and you see the playhead going through each bar with the 4 light indicators showing where it is within the loop (drums sequence). If then I goto a channel with a bass instrument and switch to the a melodic sequence...the playhead shows for the first few bars then it doesn't show the playhead any more?. Is it possible to see each bar as indicated like the drum channel

it is probably the case your loop is too long to fit into 1 page of the step sequencer, the play head is on the second page. if you change the step size to quart notes it will probably fit and you will see it.

in 16th note step size you can move pages via the page left and right or when you press and hold layout you get to choose to stick on 1 page. the manual and ableton youtube videos explain this.
