midi question???
I have two powerbooks sync d up midi. After about 5 minutes of playing the midi just stops sending and receiving. Is this a common bug in live 1?
Hi Spizzle Tizzle,
Normally this should not happen. But in our experiences it's very important to get as much information as possible about the setup you're using.
So please answer the following question here or send an email to Eduard (mueller@ableton.com) who's the responsible for MIDI issues.
- Which OS you use on each powerbook? Os 9 (which version) or OS X?
- What is running as midi master and what as midi slave? Is it both Live?
- Which midi interfaces you're using on each powerbook?
- What do you have to do to so that the midi sync stops. Just playing one clip and waiting 5minutes? Or does it happen after a special action?
regards,
Alex

2 Live on both
3 midiman1x1 on both
5 Just randomly stops and when it does the only way to get sync back is to restart computer
Thanks

I have had a simillar problem trying to get Live to run happily as MIDI clock SLAVE on a Tibook.
PB G4 500
OS 9.1
Live 2.01
RME Hammerfall DSP and Multiface
Live is perfectly happy to run on internal sync. But when EXT sync is enabled (set to MIDI CLOCK in prefs.) firing off a clip DOESNT WORK on SOME clips only. I see the green arrow flash in "about to play" mode. But when the trigger point is reached the clip never plays. It just goes into waiting to fire mode. Wierd.
Yes, the audio files are there. THE WHOLE SONG plays *perfectly* on internal sync. I know the incoming MIDI clock is good (Logic and Reason chase fine) The unit generating the MIDI clock is another Hammerfall DSP & Multiface.
Live itself CHASES fine. But some clips refuse to fire. Can anyone duplicate this problem?
cheers

about the not starting clips while slaved to MIDI clock :
Its a known bug in the latest version of Live, that you sometimes cannot fire a clip while running as MIDI slave. This happens only if the startmarker of the clip is not! at zero. Of course we are working on this problem and will fix this as soon as possible.
about loosing the midiinput :
I already have hearded this problem from someone else, who said that this happened only when using Midicontrollers to automate some Vst parameters. I could not reproduce this here, so this might be a different problem or it might not be present with all configurations.
As soon as someone can make this reproduceable, please drop me a mail
(mueller@ableton.om) and tell me how you did it.
