Where to tweak delay/Clock/External latency?

I'm trying too figure out my Roland Boutiques setup with Ableton, in my MacBook Pro. It's tricky and very inconsistent. Glitches, distortion, and a drifting clock.
I'm curious as the difference in the different places to adjust delay compensation. There's a slider in every track, there's a clock slider in the midi preferences, and there's a other one in Live's external instruments native plugin. Which should be the go to when trying to sync this outboard instruments with the software? I'm using a TR08 and a JU06A.
