What causes tiny pops at note changes?

What would cause tiny high pops unrelated to the sound at note changes where the notes run into each other? Somewhat randomly but regularly, with my plugin swapped out for an Ableton instrument it still happens, but only on some sounds and they seem to be only synth ones. The CPU meter is not jumping when it happens and the buffer size is large.

Too fast envelopes, maybe?

Thanks but that wasn't it. So perplexing. It is the same quality of 'pop' as if I automate turning on and off the EQ 8 Filter activator during a bass sound playing. Sometimes the side-chain compressor on a bass will create the same type of pop/click with many of the pulses. I have a feeling I am missing something that ties these together.

So, you're saying that it happens both with Ableton instruments and 3rd party plugins?
Does it happen when playing from Live, rendering to WAV, both?
Does freezing the track change anything?
