I have Motu Ultralite mk5 and it is working at standalone mode with ADAT & Push 3.
Now I have tested it a couple of days to be sure that it will be gigging proof also.
So far looking good..

great!

i had another idea…. there is a s**tload of old firewire motu interfaces on the used market. (like 80 bucks for an ultra lite mk3) According to Motu they work as well in standalone mode
we just have to find a way (an adapter or a friend with an old pc) to configure them once as standalone AD coverter and we’re gods to go with our push 3

yeah... I wonder whether it's better to have an old MOTU or a recent Behringer ADA8200...with 8x MIDAS preamps
in terms of converters it's more or less the same thing, isn't it?
(and it's more or less the same price...)

It would be a fun experiment. Even if you were to buy one along with a cheap old $40 laptop with FireWire to get you setup. Would be interesting to see which ones have solid preamps and noise floors compared to cost.

True, but there are older interfaces like the apogee ensemble that you can snag for $30 that work in standalone mode and have toslink.

the motu has toslink as well, but for spdif, so be aware that toslink doesn't necessarily mean adat

is anyone using an actual adat expander? such as the clarett octopre, i was looking at adding one to my set up before i got push and was going to pair with an apollo twin or clarret 2pre to do the interfacing but then realised that the interfacing can be done within push and then use the adat for analogue high quality inputs.

I ask because i want to know if running push in controller mode, which i will be doing when using the soundcard, does this draw on push's cpu or will it use my macs cpu

also maybe a silly question but does the quality of the interface in this case push cause a negative impact on the high quality adat expander?

I recorded into Push and my RME's and they both sound fine. I prefer the RME because it can drive a mic better and also I can monitor my signal in better. The issue with Push audio in is now you have to monitor the signal in Push and it can be delayed with off timing. I am able to use my Push to send MIDI though, and then record into my RME and it's tight with no issues there.

I'd suggest not using the Push audio in unless you have to. The audio out with CV enabled should be amazing though, but recording into the Push is a hassle unless you don't mind not hearing what you recording.

I use a MOTU 828es. It’s a bit spendy but you do get dc capable outputs for your eurorack.

Push 3 does cv as well though. One of its cooler features.

Also using a Behringer ADA8200. Currently I'm running the ADA as the clock master but occasionally the push just stops outputting sound and I'm not certain if it's a clock issue or a different random bug with the push. I plan to try the ADA as slave and run master clock from the push to see if it's more stable that way.
