Lots of request came in for a song mode or arrangement view for push especially with standalone mode. I made a simple song mode M4L device - would love feedback! http://pushsongmode.com

I'm interested in learning more about your visions for device's workflow.

At a high level, the concept of a song mode obviously makes sense for the P3S. I'm just curious to know more about your vision, what limitations you are intentionally solving for (i.e. no scene reordering from Push), tips/tricks, and if you have intentions for additional features in the future.

Right now the vision is to get as close as possible to creating a full song on Push as possible given the constraints. The main limitation I’m solving for is that there is no way to build up a fully fledged song that can play back independently. Yes, you can manually trigger scenes but it’s not suitable for a complex song. Ideally this device lets you start your production standalone and then export the full song to arrangement.

In terms of tips/tricks - none yet. The key thing I do is I never manually set the bars and beats (leave them at 0 which just uses the length of the longest clip) and then use repeats to get the right length.

Also, when you load this up in the desktop software, export the full song to arrangement view to speed things up.

In terms of future features - yes two main things I’m thinking. One, I created a simpler version of this called push scene Chainer - it just plays back scenes in order. I think bringing that functionality as an option to this will make sense. Next I’ve built a way to link/alias clips (which works across arrangement and session mode) in the future I’d like to have your song export automatically to arrangement mode and have clips stay in sync across both. One idea:

I would like to be able to have a M4L device put on a pad in drum rack that would fire a specific scene off when I hit a pad. Then I could do the same thing on another pad, and fire a different scene. This way, I could put the push on a drum rack channel in 64 pad mode and play the drums in a normal 4x4 layout, trigger samples from various pads, and ALSO fire scenes off for full backing tracks all within the same 64 pad drum rack view. For example, I could have pad 24 for verse on scene 1, pad 25 for chorus on scene 2, and pad 26 for bridge on scene 3, and pad 27 do a stop by firing blank scene 4.

This would be a game changer for me

Thank you eclipxe! I think this would be a great Push 3 tool. I’ve had this idea for quite awhile, not sure if any other M4L dev has built it before.

iam also interested let us know when we can test it

really dig this as i intend to perform live, launching scene manually is not always best especially if want to twiddle knobs, ableton should introduce a new session mode jsut for push 3 whereby you can set scene arrangements i.e. playing x scene x amount of bars.

love the device - but it doesnt seem to save the settings when i re-load the Set. is that normal?

Ah! It should save when reloading - might be a bug. I will take a look asap!!
