Stable Midi Filter with Ableton Live 11 (& Apple Silicon mac)

Post by Calagan » Tue Jun 13, 2023 3:36 pm

Hi there

I'm searching for a stable and recently updated M4L midi filter that works without any issues in Live 11 (and for Apple Silicon mac, but I guess, it's not an issue).

I'm using this filter since long time : https://maxforlive.com/library/device/2593/midi-filter
It has the great feature to exclude all CC but one, or exclude only one CC - and it's a gift when you've got a chain rack with 5 instruments and you want only to sustain 2 of them...

But it's not updated since 2015 and sometimes it's buggy : I don't know exactly what happens but it seems that sometimes my vsti are modified by the CC I send in my rack even if they are supposed to be filtered.
And there's this calibration note that makes me nervous : does this filter adds latency ? Is it only with midi or with audio ? Is it actually working fine ?

Anyway, I'm searching for a M4L device with similar features but done on Live 11 and bug-proof...

Anyone knows about an existing one ?
Anyone knows sufficiently M4L to check this Midi Filter and update it ?

I'd be very grateful and burn some candles for you during months.

what do you need? Only filter some Midi Ctrl Numbers?

Hi DoubleUG

It seems you gave me something, but I don't know what to do with it.
I'm a complete noob in M4L.
How do I use your code ?
I guess I need to paste it in a M4L container, but how ?
And what does it do ?

Like I said in my first post, I'm searching for a M4L midi filter plugin that has the same features as the quoted device (and especially the ability to filter only one CC, or all CC but one), but with updated code because I think it's not always stable on my version of Live and on my machine...

Ok, After some search I figured out how to patch your stuff into a M4L device and make it an amxd device, but there's the whole GUI to design, and I don't know hot to do it.
I guess it may be a good way to start to learn M4L.
See you in 25 years (I guess this is the time it will take me to learn it).

it all there. Just enter the CC you want to block in the Textedit field.

64space41space11enter.

these CC are Blocked. Write all"Enter" to block all CC´s.

Hi DoubleUg

I still didn't have the opportunity to try your device in a session, but I notice there's no option to filter all CCs BUT one (the CC64 for sustain pedal for exemple).
I hope it's an easy addition...

Hi doubleUG

Amazing !
I just tried the update and it seems to work just fine, with a very minimal footprint.
Thanks a lot it's an amazing little device !

P.S. : it just seems that the "none" command in the pass window doesn't do nothing. But it's a detail and I guess it's a feature (not a bug) in order to avoid too contradictory requests.
By the way, I think it could be nice (especially to new users) to have some basic infos about how to use the device integrated in it (and not only written on the M4L download page)... You could also add the info about how to use the text edit field : you don't mention the space between numbers in the M4L page, and the fact that "all" and "none" need to be written in lower case.
