Transferring drum racks to standalone Push 3 not working

Post by Ryan0751 » Sat Jun 17, 2023 2:40 pm

I used Kit Maker to create a kit from my Maschine library (Circuit Halo).

The drum rack works great in Live, but I am having trouble getting it
working on my Push 3.

I've copied over the Presets and Samples, being careful to match the same folder structure from my Mac's User Library on the Push 3.

So on my Push I see:
User Library/Samples/Imported/Kit Maker Samples/Maschine Kits/Circuit Halo Library
User Library/Presets/Instruments/Kit Maker Kits/Maschine Kits/Circuit Halo Library

And these of course match up with what is in Live.

When I load the drum rack presets in Push 3 standalone mode, however, I'm not seeing any samples loaded.

Any ideas? This seems to match what the Push 3 manual suggests to do as well.

My User Library is on an external drive on my Mac side, so I wonder if that has something to do with it.

I went through that.

Did you follow the steps for collecting samples? The way I read it was that if you used Kit Maker you could skip that step and just copy over the appropriate directories?

it is to open the projekt in life on pc or mac that ot works then save it with collect all and then it makes a folder under samples named imported
now you can transfer the project to push 3 stanalone over wifi i put it user folder on push
then copy over the samples from pc or mac from that project under the push dir user samples imported
then you can open the project on push e an i should detect the samples

The "open a project and collect samples" method is a workaround for when you have a kit where the samples are scattered all over your drive.

Ableton will find the samples, then place them in a single directory under the project and update the kit paths accordingly.

As-per the directions above, that shouldn't be needed for Kit Maker produced kits, as it automatically puts the samples in a nice easily identifiable directory structure.

According to the Push 3 manual, provided that the relative path structure is retained when copying the presets and samples to the Push 3, it should be able to find them.

In my case, that isn't working. I do wonder if it has something to do with the fact my User Library is on an external disk.

If I open up the .adg files (the kit files, they are just XML), then I do see my external volume mentioned in the relative path of the sample find hint. I obviously don't know the internal details of what Ableton is doing to locate samples, but this strikes me as a possible bug in standalone mode or a difference in behavior that the developers of Kit Maker haven't been made aware of yet.

I’d report this to Ableton in a support ticket. Would be good for them to know.

Is your user library on an external drive?
Suite, Push 1, Push 2, Push Standalone

That really is the key. It actually makes total sense, that's how a computer references files, so just do the same on Push as you would do if you were using multiple computers.
I'm not recommending the collect&save method, but rather recreating the exact same folder structure in your Push User Library.
So if your drum kit preset is, on your computer, saved like this, e.g:
User Library > Presets > Instruments > Drum Rack > MyKit.adg
and its samples are saved to User Library > My Custom Drum Rack samples > Whatever > etc...

Just recreate those paths to your P3 user library and drag'n'drop the files.
