IDEA FOR A M4L DEVICE

Ive been an ableton user for years, and think about things that i'd like to see / use in ableton almost constantly. haha.
and I'm wondering if this particular idea might be possible using m4l.

First there would be a sample list where you can drag and drop from the browser or wherever
And then an interface that would allow you to select a sample from the list and place it in the arrangement window according to variables
that you select.
So, it would let you drop an instance of the selected sample at the cursor in an audio track and then jump to the end of that clip
where you could choose to drop another instance of the chosen sample from the list.
obviously this is a simple base-concept. but
For every audio clip that is dropped ther would be options liek
how much space there would be from the end of the dropped clip to where the cursor jumps / the start of the next clip
how much of the sample is dropped and from where in the audio file
grid resolution / use current grid setting , reverse , pitch, etc etc etc
so you could theoretically press drop over and over and have a string of the same clip w/ the settings selected
or have each clip have different settings
.. this is getting too long and the idea may be clear enough to get the gist of what i'm picturing
it is something that would be much greater than the sum of the parts i think.
but is there enough control over the API from within max to do it.
also: is there a good place to look at what and how much one can control in ableton's api
in a simple breakdown? for a layperson?
