Hi. I'm using Live 11 Intro and want to start using EQ - better late than never! - but, of course Intro doesn't include EQ Eight.

The cost of the upgrade to Standard is rather steep, but I see there are alternatives such as MEqualizer, TDR Nova, ReaQ, Blue Cat Triple EQ

Are any of these any good? Is there one that's better than the others?

Any of the TDR plug ins are amazing, I’d have no issues recommending those.

Still, that is 50 euros. I'm surprised that in my search there is basically nothing at a good price point. Well, there is Waves

I'm not sure what is going on with them, something about sub only now? The prices I saw were cheap. They do make very very nice stuff, but again, I don't know what is going on with them.

I thought Nova was free, and it does seem to be, but now I look closer I see it has just 4 bands.

A subsidiary query, how many bands do you use when using EQ?

Frankly? I've moved away from the band eq's and do something like a Neve or SSL style eq. I find my mixes are better for it.

But I really only use 2 or 3 bands anyways. Usually a cut at the 2 fiddy to 400 hz range, and maybe a boost somewhere around 3k. I have other tools to do HP better (like the excellent Sonimus Console A, though really any of those would be just fine)

Surgical eq just makes me futz more and get less in results honestly.

Oh, BTW, most things have excellent demos. Some require ilok which is still a touchy subject for some, but I've had mine for decades now so it's no big here. Sucks when you want to sell something.

.99 cents for 3 months, you get to use all the native stuff (there is quite a bit) and it's not expensive after that. I do the year for 149, and it's worth it. That Neve is practically worth the price of admission but the API channel strip is also ace, and some dandy comps, VI's, and whatnot.

As many as needed, but usually just one or two at most.
