Preliminary arrangement sketching for a new track

Hi all. I am new to music production.
What are the best tools to use for initally sketching the arrangement of an idea for a track?
I'd like to be able to sketch a rough arrangement for a track from start to finish firstly, without hearing anything or using the actual arrangement view on Ableton. Currently I am using just paper or Excel, but this is far from ideal:) Thanks in advance.
