How do you split stereo track?
How do you split stereo track?
Has anyone figured a way to split a stereo audio clip into two mono tracks in Ableton Live 11? The Mono utility merely assigns playback to a selected channel as the waveform remains stereo, both in the Overview panel and the Editor below. The manual offers no help, so perhaps such conversion is out of Ableton's reach. Audacity performs the task with two mouse clicks, but it would be nice to be able to convert stereo to mono in Ableton.

Thanks.
Would you know of a plug-in that adds audio-editing capabilities to Ableton Live?

If you're fine with Audacity, then just add it as your audio Editor in Live's Preferences > File Folder.
Then simply click a clip's Edit button and it'll be sent to Audacity (or whatever editor you've set).

Thanks for responding and sharing the useful suggestion.
Unless I am overlooking something, adding an audio editor like Audacity to Preferences offers a quick step to editing an audio clip; but after the edit, the clip needs to be exported in Audacity, imported into Ableton then the original deleted. I was hoping an edit in Audacity vis Ableton would overwrite the original. Sigh!

Re: How do you split stereo track?
It might depend on the audio editor, but in e.g RX when you save (overwrite) your edited audio, as soon as you go back to Live the file is updated.
Maybe check the various saving options of Audacity.

Re: How do you split stereo track?
yep, it definitely depends on the audio editor. some editors will open and save the original file in place, some won't.
Re: How do you split stereo track?
Thanks for the help. I think I can live with file swapping, rather than point Audacity to Ableton; since such setting would need to be undone for other audio-editing projects.
