Hello,

I tried to record with Ableton Live Suite version 11.3.20 today.

I get latency doing a recording test with my MacBook Pro M1 Max
using macOS Sonoma Version 14.2.1

Ableton Live using around 2% of the CPU
no plugin but only one wave track.
Buffer size set from 512 to 32 samples
(with 32 samples I get a little better result but not accurate enough.)

Audio Output Device MacBook Pro Microphone （1 In, 0 Out）
MacBook Pro Speakers （O In, 2 Out）

I also tried recording with an external mic and an external sound card.

Monitor the track set to off

I record the Metronome for 1 bar but the recorded loop is not on the beat.

I tried with Logic Pro and I got the same problem.
I'll contact Apple support and will give an update.

Are you actually trying to record the metronome or does the same latency happen if you were to plug in headphones then clap along to the metronome into the mic?

Apparently this latency is common with the built in mic. There are many forums and Apple site questions regarding this. So as far as I can tell, with the built in mic, that is the latency you will always have unless they change something major.

I have the same issue with an external mic and sound card.
It's happen also in Logic Pro so it's not a Ableton Live problem.
It is not a built-in mic issue either.

I talked to Apple support, and we did all the tests with the built-in mic.
They told me to remove all the plugins that are not compatible with macOS
but it didn't solve it.
I tried on a computer at the Apple Store and got the same issue.

I asked a sound engineer and he explained to me that it would always
have a lag using the internal speaker of a computer.
And in real life, I will never record using the internal speaker of my computer.
The only way to get the record on time is to use a sound interface (play accurately)
and the direct monitoring if getting some latency in the headphones...

In Logic, there is a way to check the record latency.
Plug a cable to the In to out of the interface.
In Audio Effect / Utility plugin / I/O Mono you can check the record delay.
Mine was around 0.01

So nothing to worry about.
