Live 12 won't launch

I just downloaded Live 12 and it went smoothly, but it won't launch. I'm on windows 10 pro, with an i5 processor. No folder was created in AppData\Roaming\Ableton for Live 12, and no Live Reports for any crashes. I see Live 12.exe for a split second show up in the task manager but it exits quickly. I can't see any indication of what the problem is. Any ideas where to look?

Live 11.3.21 works fine.

You can try running it As Administrator

Assuming you have the shortcut to the application executable,
you can right click it to try that. If it works, you can set it permanently from the Compatibility tab from the shortcut Properties

Thanks for the suggestion. When I run it as administrator, I see a dialog asking whether I want to allow the app to make changes, and after I say Yes it immediately quits, same as before.

I would try a reboot, then reinstall - but Run As administrator when installing. It might also be worth disabling antivirus temporarily in case something like that is getting in the way or adding overhead.

With the Live browser changes, there’s a good chance that it’s just indexing and running background tasks to get that going. So you might just have to wait a while before it finally opens up

Same problem here. Windows 11 (newest version). Admin doesn't work. Live 11 upgrade install.

On Windows you need to be using a CPU that is a 5th gen Core i5 or higher now, this is new from Live 11:

Windows 10 (version 22H2) or Windows 11 (version 22H2 or higher)
5th generation Intel® Core™ i5 processor or AMD Ryzen processor (CPU supports AVX2 instruction set)
8 GB RAM
1366x768 display resolution
ASIO-compatible audio hardware for Link support (also recommended for optimal audio performance)
Approximately 3 GB disk space on the system drive for the basic installation (8 GB free disk space recommended)

I have the same problem on 2 computers i7; a i5 works. Live12 seems to be very picky with respect to the CPU "generation". Ableton support wrote me:

You may be experiencing this issue if your computer's chipset does not meet the published specified minimum system requirements, in particular the chipset:

Windows

Windows 10 (version 22H2) or Windows 11 (version 22H2 or higher)
5th generation Intel® Core™ i5 processor or AMD Ryzen processor

Note: 5th generation.

Live 12 will not launch, same issues as mentioned by others in this thread.
Live 11 has been working fine on an older CPU i7-3930 running Windows 10.
Damn, looking like its time to upgrade my 11 year old notebook

I'm having exactly the same problem. Live 11 worked just well; I have an Intel Pentium G4600. I'm pretty sure that when this processor was released the Intel Cores were at their 7th generation though?

In my case it may be the AVX2 thing. I have to admit Live 11 was a little slow to open. Really don't want to upgrade ATM though.

I'm having the same problem on Windows 10 FWIW I'm running Dual Xeon processors with 8 cores each, yielding 32 HT processors, and 64gb ram.

Installed as administrator, rebooted, run as administrator, it fails. Reinstall same problem. I am installing offline.

For those worried about CPUs, I'm assuming the CPU requirement is just a recommendation to get adequate performance from the app. Windows and apps don't care what CPU is installed, because the hardware abstraction layer makes it agnostic.

When looking for crash reports in ...\livereports, I noticed that there are directories for 11.x in the parent directory holding ..\livereports, but none for 12.x - maybe because it never started.

I have the same problem.

When I run the program as administrator, in the task manager box it says "Ableton Live Suite 12.exe" running and then instantly says "Suspended".
I do not know what is the problem. My PC should run it with no problem.
I feel a little sad because I made an effort to upgrade to Ableton 12 to get new and interesting things. I hope that Ableton troubleshooting team will provide us with a solution for this issue.
