What I would like to understand is, why is this restriction only for the Windows version? The MacOS version needs neither 5th Generation i5, nor support for AVX2. Just i5.

AMD FX8350 ;0)
I remember it well, before I changed my gaming rig for a AM4 Ryzen 5950 just as the new AM5 platform was announced.

I found this online. https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?t=31628
"the FX8350 belongs to a AMD micro architecture called Piledriver Piledriver features AVX1.1 but not AVX2"

Now it's looking like I'll have to buy a new/old Laptop, with the bover of moving loads of stuff. All this hassle just for LIVE.

I would ask for a refund but I have the Push3 and I'm keen to see Live 12 on that.
I have an FX6300 on an older system. I rarely use it but Live 11 works.

Supposedly my i7 4790 it will work. I probably won install 12 on it because I'm not ready to remove 11. Keeping both version take up 10GB of drive space and it's a 256gb drive and other developers like to bloat drive space.
Ableton had plenty of time to warn us. The moment Live 12 was announced, they could have made it clear on the order page.
They could have made it convincing, as one person on this thread has, with their explanation for why these instructions are used.

Instead, I have spent a few bucks 'preparing for 12, by improving my setup with i7 3rd gen CPUs because they were compatible
with the sockets in the laptops I have. Had I known I would have cut my losses and moved up a rung.
Maybe the assumed people were using shiny new gear.

The same thing happened with Kontakt 7 which will show a black screen if using older video cards.

No one wants to replace hardware if it works.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger to upgrade my system which cost me $1200. Talking about the tail wagging the dog. Even though my system needed the refresh, I would've rather done it on my schedule.

The minimal requirement of a 5th-generation Intel i5 processor was mentioned on the ordering page.

When you have a 4th-generation or older processor, it's irrelevant to know about AVX2, since the processor doesn't meet the minimum requirement in the first place. Yet, people with such processors are complaining here.

It was not mentioned on the upgrade page for those already with Live. Look what's appeared now, one week after the release: https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... 0processor.

Those who can run AL12, can you notice any performance improvement relative to 11 that could be linked with VX2?

Okay, so you wouldn't have an incentive to find out.
How about folks who run huge projects, vst2 & 3, multisamples, with video ?

Yeah and then there's your backup because we all need the safety net of a backup system. Does anyone want to buy my now obsolete backup systems?

It was.i pointed many users to it.

The new page is telling the same using more words: 5th-generation i5 processor is the minimum requirement.
That AVX2 is the reason they draw the line here is nice to know, but not relevant when you want to see if your processor can run Live 12.

I upgraded from an i7 3770k to an i9 12900k

Live 11 would hang on launch and was pretty slow to do some things.
It is lightning fast now. Of course, the CPU is crazy better, so hard to say what AVX2 is contributing. As much as I hated to do it, I needed to upgrade anyway. There were other issues. New machines don't like MBR, so I had to convert to GPT. I didn't know I had to deauthorize plugins, so that was an issue. The hardware part was easy and I now have 3 3000mbs drives that operate pretty much exactly like 5400rpm drives 99% of the time. Don't spend money for gen 4 drives unless you are moving a lot of large files around.

Hey, can anyone confirm if my Mac will work with Ableton Live 12 — or where I can check if it will?

I've googled a bit and cannot find any clear answers: My specs are as follows:

OSX 10.15.7 — (I know that I will have to upgrade to Big Sur, at least)

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)
3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7

Thank you in advance!🙏
