Audio Monitoring On When Opening Ableton

Only for a moment then it switches off.
Absolutely terrifying and it's happened a few time.
Suddenly roaring feedback. Serious potential damage to all ears in the room and no fault of mine - just ableton choosing to open with the monitor enabled on the audio track.
Has anyone else had this?
I'm using an Apollo twin interface.
