Poly Aftertouch

I know MPE and Poly AT are not the same thing but do I need to enable MPE mode for Poly AT to work?

Poly AT - or "Polyphonic Key Pressure" - is a regular MIDI message that has been part of the MIDI implementation since Version 1. So no, you don't need to enable MPE to use it.
