Live 12 - Midi CC 123 not usable.

Hello,

maybe someone can verify this. In Ableton 12 Suite under Windows 10 it is not possible for me to use CC 123. I can't map it anywhere.

My midi controller has, among other things, 8 faders to which I have assigned the CC numbers 120 - 127. The 1st fader is CC 120, the 4th fader is CC 123 and this 4th fader cannot be used with this CC number.

To rule out a defect in the 4th fader, I used a midi monitor (stand-alone, not Ableton) to see what was coming through. Everything is ok. The fader does what it should.

Even with a stand-alone VST synth, the fader does what it should.

So it looks as if Ableton 12 does not recognize CC 123. Is the problem perhaps already known? Are other CCs possibly also affected?

By the way, before the question arises: CC 123 is not used anywhere else.

Yup, there are a few CCs that are verboten for user-assignment in Live. No, I don’t know why sorry, but that’s the way it is.

You’ll just have to program your controller to send another CC.

You should not use CCs 120-127, because according to the official MIDI implementation they "are reserved for Channel Mode Messages, which rather than controlling sound parameters, affect the channel's operating mode."

Better use CCs 20-31 or 102-119, which are officially "undefined".

Thank you very much for your answers.

I wasn't aware that the CC 120-127 range is reserved. But ok, that explains everything. Then I'll reprogram my controller.

You never stop learning:

CC123 is a switch used to tell an instrument to turn all active notes off. This may be useful if a note is hung in the on position. Values of 0-63 indicate OFF. Values 26-127 indicate ON.

In connection with my midi problem, I noticed that the MIDI browser sometimes displays the entries twice.

When the browser is opened for the first time, everything is ok. If you then delete an entry, for example, the existing list is appended again at the bottom.

However, this has no effect on the functions themselves. Nevertheless, this should be fixed.
