File transfer problems...

Hi everyone

I'm having problems transferring sets from Live to Push. The progress bar quickly moves to 100% and then pauses for a minute or so, before I get a message telling me that the transfer has failed. When I check the Push, it seems some of the files have transferred, but not all of them.

This is with my home router. I've tried using a hotspot on my iPhone, but then Live doesn't recognise the Push at all.

This is a bit disappointing. Can anybody help?

I really hope that it's planned for there to be direct file transfer with a cable...

I have never seen this personally, but I'd check firstly that you'd correctly connected live to the push - sometimes push will show up in Live despite being in controller mode. I know I've tried transfers when it's in this state and iirc they've failed immediately, but I wasn't looking too closely. You'll often need to enter the 6 digit number showing on the push screen to connect to live properly.

I'd also make sure you've authorised your push correctly - tbh it probably shouldn't make much difference for file transfers, but it can make firmware updates fail so there's no harm double checking.

The push will work with a USB to Ethernet dongle. Its so much faster and 100% reliable. Besides the dongle all you would need is an ethernet cable from your router. Why walk when you can fly?

Thanks, both.

All authorised and up-to-date. I sent a video to Ableton a while ago, and have chased up, but no reply from support. Which is a bit weird.

So just Push to router via ethernet? and laptop over Wifi still?

Just figuring out whether it would end up being tricky for me!

Could this be some kind of firewall settings blocking the transfer?

Yeah, this worked for me, although for large files i'll also connect the laptop to the router. Direct to ethernet is bullet proof.

No firewall unfortunately, [jur].

Ableton support just advised the ethernet adapter too.

I'm assuming it needs to be the USB-C to ethernet type (rather than using the USB-A socket)?

(I was hesitant to do this as the router is in the other room, so lots of unnecessary cabling. I *really* hope they add the ability to just do file transfer using a cable. Maybe there's a reason I don't know, but it seems like a really obvious thing that is missing.)

I think it's working with the USB-A socket actually, but it'd be worth checking in the Knowledge Base

Hi again

Still no luck - I've got my MacBook connected via ethernet (working perfectly)

My Push is connected via a USB A to ethernet adapter to the same router, but it just doesn't seem to recognise it.

The USB A-to-ethernet adapter is this one:

Argh. This is so frustrating. Has anybody got any advice?

The problem seems to be solved now.

In case anybody else is having a similar issue, I recommend the TP-Link UE300 (I saw it recommended elsewhere on this forum). Using this seems to be working.

I guess not all USB-A to Ethernet adapters work with the Push 3.

Or you can use this Max for live device to transfer files to push (outside of Ableton:) https://maxforlive.com/library/device/1 ... s-for-push

the ethernet to usb adaptors that are recommended unfortunately did not solve this. You get one for USB-A for the Push, and get one for your computer, turn off wifi on both devices, and you will see Push appear in your Live browser...It goes through your router. CAT7 cables in my case, and shows up like a charm. Might be that I need to troubleshoot the router?

I will add that I am not getting any warning of missing references or files from within the set itself. In other words, no "some samples are missing" prompt once a set is opened on the Push3s. So shall I expect smooth sailing? So far, so good

Just a thought. If your computer has a VPN program running, then it might as well be on another network. It won't be found by the Push. Both devices need to be on the same level of the network, connected directly to the same router etc. You could mix wifi and ethernet as long as they are both coming from the same router box. If you have your Push defaulting to another wifi access point, such as a mobile hotspot, you will need to disable that. I hope this helps you to trouble shoot the problem.
