The new MP3 support is great but I really would like to be able to Render to an MP3 as well. At the moment I have to render as an Aiff/Wav file, import into iTunes and convert. Not a major thing but it would save a few minutes.
AAC support would be nice as well but I guess thats another topic....

waveform drag-n-drop onto Cdex: about 20 seconds. If ableton could write the code to beat that (without taking away resources from their other tasks) then I'm all for it - but I don't think they can.

You can bounce to MP3/AAC in Logic Pro so I shouldn't think it's impossible. I would assume it's just an additional conversion process that happens as soon as the file has rendered.

If Live would write (encode) Mp3 files, it would require a Mp3 license, and this will raise the final price of Live… Reading (decode) Mp3 is for free…

Or it could work like Audacity et al - built-in LAME support - you just need to download LAME and plug it in.
