Hello,

I am new to Ableton and I am trying to produce reggae dub by using the Akai APC mini and the Akai Midimix to control my tracks live. My issue is that when I assign them some knobs get assigned to two different functions. I realised this is because they have the same CC name/number. Specifically, a channel fader from mini and a knob from Midimix have the same name, so I cannot assign them to different functions. Is there any way to overcome this issue?

AKAI don't supply an editor for their controllers so you'll need to use a MIDI translator like BOMES.

Or buy a more expensive controller.

There are a few modes of control you can use. If you’re willing to make compromises there is one approach that might work kind of well.

The two main methods of using controllers in Live are ‘control surface’ and ‘remote midi mapping’.

Control surface method is where things in Live automatically map to things on your controller based on premade code. You just select everything and it works without having to do any mapping. This is probably especially how your APC mini functions. If you use that with the APC, it’ll give you a decent amount of control. But if you have ‘Remote’ turned on in the lower part of midi preferences, mappings will Override your APC mini default functions.

Remote is what you use for doing mapping of controls. It is turned on in the lower half of midi preferences. If it is on, mappings for a particular control number will apply to any controller that has Remote turned on. I would maybe turn Remote On for the mini mix. Then you can do midi mappings on that while the APC has the default clip launching functionality)
