Ableton, time to up Push's sequencing game? (TE OP-XY)

The sequencing features of the TE OP-XY are really, really intriguing ... not enough to switch platforms, Push offers many intriguing things of its own, but come on, you've had 18 months and the native sequencing features of Push are still really, really basic.

Which of course makes no sense because Live itself is a sequencing powerhouse, particularly the new generative stuff. I would have roadmapped those before macro variations.

It's not enough to rely on janky M4L devices to pick up the slack.

Is there anything in this regard on the near roadmap? There's no sign of it in the public beta.

100% agree with this. The MIDI tools are incredible, but how on earth is the plan for them to be a “point and click” only feature when youre selling native hardware? Its maddening.

They really should be integrated into the push clip view platform at least, right? At least that’s what seems logical to me.

Yep, I saw a standalone on craigslist here for $1250 so I couldn't pas it up, but the fact that you cant tie a simple song together out of Scenes in standalone is just, baffling. I'll be retired and battling dementia at the rate they're adding features...

Push hardware is so beautifully designed but software integration as intuitive as a brick
Ableton say something
Ableton do something

Kinda leaving us out in the cold here.

IMO it's a weird Catch 22 isn't it? They release the Push 3 SA over a year ago, without the ability to write an entire song in standalone. They don't really communicate much about a roadmap, and likely are not seeing the kinds of sales of the standalone that they might have wanted to, which I would think is partially due to the fact that standalone only really offers playing Scenes, jamming out Scenes without being able to see what you jammed out, and playing the 64 pads with instruments.

So it's really only going to appeal to die hard Live users who want to support everything they do, or people who want a 64 pad instrument to play live. If you're thinking it's an extension of the songwriting process, it's only really good for coming up with Scenes, or loops, not for composing a song.

There is some consensus that Ableton want to do more with P3 SA but I just don't ever see them somehow speeding up and getting it done quickly, they never really have been the fastest to improve their software, it's just the way it is. :|

Push SA users: more features please, particularly the obvious omissions

Ableton: … Move

There has been a steady trickle of new features and bug fixes but the pace is glacial.

Push SA is still useful to me as is because it means I don’t have to take a laptop on stage to perform a Live set. But my workflow is ‘do absolutely everything in Live’ and then transfer it to Push. I don’t really use Push SA to ‘make’ anything, only to perform.

That's the thing though, even for live sets without Follow Actions you aren't going to be doing any complex on the fly rearrangements of the backing tracks, because they're just going to be one long audio file, not a combination of parts that you don't have to trigger, that you can instantly rearrange. You're either dealing with a completely arranged set of long audio files, or you're firing every Scene by hand. Unfortunately a laptop is still better in a live set.

Yes you’re right.

My current use case is triggering samples and short sequences with a band and playing internal synths with the pads, so fairly simple.

It mystifies me why follow actions in particular weren’t there from the off.

They’ve said bits here and there but it’s not well organised.

Last year in an interview with Sonicstate’s Nick Batt some Ableton bod (head of hardware maybe?) said the new Live 12 MIDI transformations and generators ARE coming to Push SA …

There’s a public beta program if you’re not on that and that’s been ahead on some bigger features at times (inevitably) and there’s a private beta program but obvs anybody on that is behind an NDA and can’t say what’s coming.

Just give us Follow Actions, and per Scene time signatures and tempos first FFS?
The fact they want to add in randomizing stuff first or at least are talking about it openly while ignoring core functions of Live Session View missing from P3 SA is beyond frustrating.

MPC 3 is getting time signatures back, already has variable tempos, a song window, had Next Sequence forever etc. It's just frustrating when little old Akai is beating the snot out of Ableton with likely a unit with 1/3 the CPU. The software on Push 3 frankly is subpar and the hardware is fantastic, it's just bizarre. :x

Buy an Akai Force = problem solved - does it all........

I have a Force, and do not use my PC anymore with LIve 10 suite and Reason 12 on it!

It’s getting updates soon, apparently. Users had thought Akai had somewhat abandoned it.

I haven't read anything about that, what's your source? The MPC 3 is chugging along though.
