Using EXTERNAL AUDIO EFFECT- How in the lords name is my audio printing earlier than the send??

Hello,

here I am. I use the 'external audio effect' to send out to the amazing 'Chroma Console' that Sergio kindly lent me - (i really recommend, also the microcosm is great)

but when i print the return signal, rather than being late which i expected, the printed audio is appearing EARLY!! I am truly confounded. Is there someone who can tell me what's going on? I have NOT entered a value into the 'hardware latency' box.
